Our promise
OLYRON HealthMatch is free to use. We may be paid when we connect you with a licensed advisor, and some companies we list may pay us a referral fee if you enroll. Payments never change the order of our comparisons or ratings.
Sourcing and dating
Every factual claim we publish carries a source and an as-of date. Official sources come first: HealthCare.gov, CMS, Medicare.gov and state agencies. Company facts come from each company’s own published terms, with the date we checked. Our current dataset is dated 2026-01-15; enrollment dates were last checked 2026-10-15. When a federal table, a deadline or a price changes, we update the date and the copy. During open enrollment we re-check dates and prices.
Main sources
- HealthCare.gov — the official ACA Health Insurance Marketplace
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Medicare.gov — the official U.S. government Medicare site
- KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation) — health policy research
- U.S. Census Bureau — health insurance coverage data
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS) — HSA and premium tax credit rules
- HHS / ASPE — federal poverty guidelines
- CMS Center for Consumer Information & Insurance Oversight (marketplace types)
- Medicaid.gov — federal Medicaid program information
- CMS — Medicare Communications and Marketing Guidelines (TPMO)
- OLYRON HealthMatch editorial methodology — how we source and rate options

How we rank options, consumer first
When you answer a few questions, a scoring function puts options in order for you. It reads only your answers and our dated facts table. It cannot see fees, partner status, tracked links or our founder’s relationship with MPB Health: those live in a separate file it never imports, and an automated test fails if that ever changes.
Step 1: hard filters
An option is set aside, with the reason shown on its card, when it is not open to new members in your state, needs a faith test you decline, does not accept tobacco users, has an age limit you fall outside, or when you are eligible for Medicare (then we point you to Medicare options instead). We show these as unavailable rather than hiding them, so the comparison stays honest.
Step 2: score
Every remaining option gets a score from 0 to 1:
- Signal
- Fit to your stated needs
- Weight
- 35%
- What it looks at
- Faith preference, pre-existing conditions, pregnancy plans, telehealth, HSA, self-employment.
- Signal
- Expected cost for your situation
- Weight
- 20%
- What it looks at
- Published starting price for one person; for Marketplace plans, whether you may get subsidies.
- Signal
- Protection strength
- Weight
- 20%
- What it looks at
- Limits and caps, how long pre-existing conditions wait, maternity, and whether payment is guaranteed.
- Signal
- Track record
- Weight
- 15%
- What it looks at
- Regulator actions, court cases that survived dismissal, and consumer-complaint alerts, all dated.
- Signal
- Transparency
- Weight
- 10%
- What it looks at
- Whether prices and guidelines are published where anyone can read them.
Track record is scored from our dated legal-history notes: a recent state order or an open class action lowers it. Protection and transparency are editorial scores we publish with each company’s facts. Ties are broken alphabetically. The weights never include a fee.
When Marketplace plans come first
ACA Marketplace plans are insurance; health sharing is not. So Marketplace plans go to the top, whatever their score, when any of these is true:
- You or someone in your household has a pre-existing or ongoing health condition.
- You are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.
- Your income may qualify you for help paying premiums.
- You take ongoing prescriptions.
- The oldest adult who needs coverage is 50 or older.
- You want coverage that guarantees payment of covered bills.
The founder’s pick is kept apart
Our founder is the Chief Technology Officer of MPB Health. MPB Health never appears inside the ranked results. When it fits your answers, it appears after them in a separate panel titled “Our founder’s pick (not part of the ranking above)”, with the conflict disclosure above its price and button. The panel is not shown on our Medicare site, to Medicare-eligible visitors, or in Washington. The headline of your results always names the top ranked option, never the founder’s pick. How we make money.
Quality gate
Programmatic pages are scored 0–100 on length, lexical uniqueness, data blocks, and citations. Anything below 60 renders noindex and stays out of the sitemap. Condition × state overlays have a second gate: only high-demand conditions in large states stay indexable. Thin or templated pages never get indexed.
“Best for” rankings are computed from tags and price tiers in our curated registry, not invented by AI. Any AI feature we add must narrate the same ranking the page shows, never its own.
Samples, ratings and photos
- Sample numbers (for example in a calculator) are always labeled as samples.
- We publish no star ratings, reviews, testimonials or member counts. We never buy, write or filter reviews.
- Every statistic shows its source and date.
- Photos are licensed stock photos of models or members of the public. The people shown are not our customers or members and do not endorse anything. Photo credits.
Review and corrections
Facts are re-checked on the date shown next to them and whenever a source changes. If you find a mistake, email support@olyron.com with the page address. We fix confirmed errors and update the date.
Conflict policy: our founder does not edit MPB Health facts or the ranking weights, and a second reviewer signs off any MPB Health copy.
How we make money
We may be paid when we connect you with a licensed advisor you asked to hear from, and some companies may pay us a referral fee if you enroll through our link. Each company card says whether we have a relationship. Payments never change the order of our results. Full details.
What we do not do
- We do not diagnose conditions or give medical advice.
- We do not invent ratings, reviews, or star scores.
- We do not claim health sharing is insurance.
- We do not offer every Medicare plan in your area (see our TPMO disclaimer below).
