In Florida
What’s different where you live.
In Florida, residents enroll through HealthCare.gov, and prices vary across the state's 67 counties. Because Florida has not expanded Medicaid, Marketplace subsidies are especially important for keeping coverage affordable here.
The honest answer to "how much does health insurance cost" is that the sticker price and what you actually pay are two very different numbers. A benchmark Silver plan for a 40-year-old often runs $450-$600 a month at full price — but most Marketplace enrollees qualify for a premium tax credit that reduces that dramatically, and a large share pay under $100 a month.
Four things drive your premium: your age (insurers can charge older adults up to three times more), where you live (prices are set by county), the metal tier you pick (Bronze is cheapest monthly, Platinum most expensive), and how many people are on the plan. Your income then determines your subsidy, which is often the biggest lever of all.
The premium is not the whole cost, either. A low-premium plan usually carries a high deductible, so the right comparison is your total expected cost — premium plus the care you use against the deductible and out-of-pocket maximum — in both a healthy year and a bad one.

Questions
Good questions, short answers.
How much is health insurance per month?
Full-price benchmark plans often run $450-$600/month for a 40-year-old, but after ACA subsidies many people pay under $100/month. Your exact cost depends on age, county, tier, and income.
Why is health insurance so expensive?
Premiums reflect medical costs, your age, and your plan tier. If the full price feels high, check your subsidy eligibility first — income-based tax credits often cut the cost substantially.
